Disciplines: A Framework for Review

The IBCLC Exam is constructed by using IBLCE’s Detailed Content Outline. I have used the numbers of items in that document to depict the percentages you see below.

We cannot assume that the “bigger” percentages require more study and the “smaller” percentages require less. However, if you feel you are particularly weak in one area, consider how that will impact your overall score.

I have given one-to-one help to dozens of people who have failed the IBCLC Exam. In my experience, most people have the most trouble with the Development and Nutrition, Pharmacology, and Pathophysiology; Physiology/endocrinology and Clinical skills. Most candidates do fairly well with items in the Psychology/Sociology/Anthropology and the Techniques disciplines.
