Postpartum Depression (SU)
Goal:
To help healthcare providers to give accurate information and reasonable choices to breastfeeding women who are at risk for or have diagnosed with postpartum depression.
Objectives
- Differentiate the signs and symptoms of baby blues, postpartum depression, and postpartum psychosis.
- Recognize risk factors and indicators of postpartum depression.
- Identify evidence-based strategies for effectively treatment postpartum depression.
- Relate a history of sexual abuse to the incidence of breastfeeding initiation and postpartum depression.
- Recognize drugs prescribed for depression that are strictly contraindicated for the breastfeeding mother/baby dyad.
