Determining Your Strengths & Weaknesses

Most people begin by studying material that they are strong at; material that they enjoy or find easy. Then, at some point, they realize they have very little time to tackle the content they are weak in; the topics they find boring or difficult. It’s much more efficient to start with the material you’re weak at.

Do a fundamental self-assessment of topic mastery. Use the topics that will be addressed on the IBCLC Exam. Ask yourself how confident you feel with each of those topics. Plan to start your study with the topic where you feel the weakest.

Review the IBCLC Exam Detailed Content Outline and the Clinical Competencies for the Practice of IBCLCs to help you determine your areas of strengths and weaknesses. One of the simplest ways to become aware of your strengths and weaknesses is to review terms associated with the material. Understanding the meaning of a term is fundamental to your understanding of how to deal with it. Otherwise stated, you cannot possibly answer a test question on something if you don’t truly know what it means.
